Small changes for big impact

When I look at India from US I get more ideas and an open perspective view than, when I am in India.
I feel this tells me, one has to take a step back and see things from a distance and do proper analysis and then provide solutions to any problems.

I am sure within India people are just doing stuff over and over again, with no thought or mind to change or improve. When you have so many people and so many process and procedures it gets hard to change anything. So to address this issue, my mantra today will be do some small changes which will result into big impact down the line. And on the same lines make sure your change will not result into adverse effect.

So, what are those small changes which India can adopt?

1. Timings

We all know Indian standard timings which always run late. How would one change the people's mindset? I know it is difficult to change minds of all people. How about kids? They are small with fresh and clean minds. There you go, change all school and college timings to start early.
Say at 7 Am or 7:30 Am. Go ahead and implement this change in small towns and villages and district places. Look for impact on the people, if everything looks good go ahead and implement in big metros and cities.
Advantage of starting early school is immense. It will make kids, parents, teachers every other person connected to school/college to change. This change will help people gain time in the evenings and do something productive.
Secondly it would make people to go to bed early, today we see good family people roaming around in downtown at 10 or 11 PM in night. It gets harder for police to differentiate good guys and bad guys in night. When you isolate good guys from the bad guys, Police can function better in night and therefore lesser crime.

2. Capital Cities

For haven sake, we got to change current state capitals. Any person with sensible thinking can easily tell all our current state capitals are heavily crowded. Most of the state capitals are also finance capitals. Politicians are getting involved into finances and running business by staying in the current capital cities.
When you change the current capital cities to something under developed place, we will be achieving 2 things.
Firstly we will reduce unnecessary politicians in the busy crowded capitals and on the same scale we will improve the new capital city. This change might have severe back lash, this must be done in a phased manner otherwise some politicians and business men might create lots of problems.

3. Education

Education is the key for any society to progress. But India is one place which is not trying hard to provide education to all. It gives subsides, loan waivers, unwanted schemes without concentrating on education and teachers.
Lots of villages and cities in India do not schools or proper schools. Many schools have no teachers. Schools which have teachers do not have students. Lots of teachers do not come to schools and do different business and collect pay checks.
Schools in big cities have become so much commercials entities. Real education does not happen; instead there is a race to collect as much donations from people. Children and parents who go to these schools have only one dream, to get out of the country as early as possible.
To fix this issue, one need to make on small change of increasing the number of teachers across board, Double the number of schools and colleges in all towns, districts and villages.

Finally, there could be many more than 3 points which I have stated above. Any country needs a good leadership to implement these smallest of small changes to improve the society as a whole.

Happy New Year

I wish all my blog readers a very Happy New Year, Let the year 2007 bring in all the success and happiness to you all. This year I felt the New Year celebration in Bangalore was more colorful and I could see more people on streets compared to last year. I received many SMS, with messages saying that the network will be jammed on 31st December. But in fact our service providers were all set for more traffic for 31st December. They could manage it. I guess Airtel, BSNL, HTUCH, Spice, Reliance, TATA & other mobile/Telephone service providers made good money on this New Year occasion. It is estimated around 1 Billion rupees!!!. This reminds me the Hutchison-Essar deal; it is estimated to be around 17 to 18 billion dollars. So if you make right calculations, 10 such New Year occasions will make the company go past break even and make more profits.

India needs Revolution.

Have you ever renovated your house while staying in it. Believe me it is a mess. In early 90s, my father was did a small renovation of our house and we stayed in the house while extending a part of kitchen, bathroom and dining hall. I was not comfortable during those 30 days of renovation. There was no privacy coz, workers were every where doing the job. The entire place was full of dust. The small tiny particles of sand and cement were there in all the places. My mom used to clean the house all day long to keep it clean. Once the renovation completed, there was sense of relief and I particularly was happy because of no dust. I am telling you this story because this exactly fits the current Indian system. Be it the Nair Radia tapes, Telecom Scandal, common wealth scandal, political parties, etc. By seeing India from a distance, as i am currently outside India, i feel India is still in process of renovation, there is corruption every where. Everybody know all political parties and bure...

Nostalgic about food.

Have you ever experienced in your life a certain addiction to a particular food with particular flavor and taste. No matter you eat that food any where in the world you will never ever get satisfied and you constantly miss that taste. And sometime you regret that you could not eat as often as you could, simply because we could not afford it. It was way back in late eighties when i used to live in beautiful Bangalore. Unlike today Bangalore was so peace full and a calm place my brother and me used to ride a bicycle and go to a mobile shop(i.e a small shop on wheels) and eat "Masala poori" and "Pani poori" which used to cost us just Rs 1.50 a plate, together we both would spend utmost 6 rupees. we used to go some where around 7:30 and 8 PM in the night relish the great stuff.  I agree it was not the most hygienic food. After seeing the way food is prepared and eaten across the world i don...
